About Sandnes Garn Double Sunday
Double Sunday is the thickest of Sandnes Garn’s 100% merino yarns and a great all-round choice when you want a soft, smooth wool yarn without superwash treatment.
It can be knitted as a single strand for classic sweaters, cardigans, vests, hats and children’s garments, or used double stranded when a pattern calls for a substantially thicker yarn. Double Sunday also works beautifully with Tynn Silk Mohair as a second strand when you want to add a soft halo, extra warmth and more depth to the finished fabric.
Double Sunday vs Sunday
If you already know and love Sandnes Garn Sunday, think of Double Sunday as its thicker sibling.
Both are 100% merino wool and non-superwash treated, but Sunday is a fine 4ply yarn with approximately 235m per 50g, while Double Sunday has approximately 108m per 50g and knits at an 8ply/DK gauge.
Choose Sunday for finer, lighter garments and patterns requiring a 4ply merino. Choose Double Sunday when you want a thicker fabric, faster knitting and the versatility of an 8ply/DK merino.
As always, check the required tension and knit a swatch before substituting one yarn for another.
Double Sunday PetiteKnit Colours
The Double Sunday range includes a special colour collection developed in collaboration with Danish knitwear designer PetiteKnit.
These PetiteKnit colours sit alongside the wider Sandnes Garn Double Sunday palette and use the same Double Sunday yarn base, so you can choose and combine colours across the range while keeping the same fibre, meterage and knitting characteristics.
A Great Second-Strand Partner
Double Sunday can also be held together with Tynn Silk Mohair as a second strand. This popular combination keeps the merino base while adding the characteristic softness and halo of mohair.
Your finished gauge will change when combining yarns, so follow the requirements of your chosen pattern rather than the standard Double Sunday tension.
Care
Double Sunday is non-superwash merino wool but is machine washable. Sandnes Garn recommends washing wool garments separately on a gentle wool programme at 30°C.
Spin hand-knitted garments well after washing, reshape and dry flat, preferably on a towel. Avoid using a laundry bag, as the additional friction can encourage felting.
Always follow the care instructions on the yarn label.
